• How can you effectively communicate with start-up clients during times of uncertainty?

  An important addition to this point - give them flexibility. Start-ups are known for pivots and hard turns. Fires are put-out on a daily basis. They need less friction (rigidity), not more. They also like to tinker with things. Give them the flexibility to move around and change things as part of the expectations and deliverables, and they will love you for it.

• How can you effectively communicate with start-up clients during times of uncertainty?

  Before everything else - understand what is valuable to them. What is their mission statement? What stage are they in? Are they going after revenue at the moment? Validating product-market fit? Speed of deployment? Once you know that you will be able to advise them on what your value proposition is. Start-ups are not like regular companies. A lot of the time they operate in obscure verticals and have a different approach to things. Act accordingly.

• How can you effectively communicate with start-up clients during times of uncertainty?

  Relationships based on trust are the most valuable things one could build. A meaningful relationship can transcend products and directions, both of which can change rapidly in a start-up. Start-ups are intrinsically stressful, so if you have established yourself as a trusted partner you become a natural go-to for them. Relationships can even transcend companies in some cases. A founder starting a new business will be inclined to lean on existing relationships in order to move fast. It's the value of network on steroids.
